I care - but generally about soloing - not specifically about one build vs another. I agree that if Anet thinks its a flaw in what they envisioned for a Monk to run like that well, they have every right to stop it and I dont feel slighted. I however DO wish that Anet take care not to try and remove soloing entirely. You cant always find a PUG that works, you dont always have guild members to support you, and sometimes you just need to not be in a party. I'd just hate to see Anet go nerf happy and make it so the game is just: party, PvP, or stand in town and try to sell wood.

I don't. Wasn't GW called "cooperative mmorpg" or whatever? Solo hardly counts as cooperative in my dictionary. People want uber solo characters - there are games that allow that.

I beat the Unwanted Guests Quest before. Quite easy actually now that I think of it.
Also Aera Lure, although I hate to solo, because of the fact that I have enough one player games, I do agree with you 100% because I understand that it does happen

Cheers a positive reply. I also understand 100% where you are coming from. I dont wish for an uber solo character (never ran the monk build) nor do I wish to diminish the importance of partying (which is more fun when it works). I'd just like to see the game such that if someone finds a need to play a bit solo they can still actually be playing GW and not moving on to something else and think anyone would hope for the same. All good though. Anet does seem to have the stance that the final areas are indeed meant for party-only play and that is fine by me. Leaves other things to do when you cant go there.

the root problem that causes people to have to solo is that the drop rates are really really horrible in this game.

it is the lack of good drop rates that cause people to have to solo in order to make any money

of course these problems may have now been solved with green items therefore this comment is more so an observation about why soloing was justified despite the devs claiming Guild Wars to be a cooperative game

For your information the crappy loot in many places initially comes from solo farming (and especially in the UW which used to be generous). Everything in this game is balanced for a full team. Solo farmers screw up this balance because they receive 8 times more loot than standard players. As a result inflation kicks in and hits everybody and drop rates are reduced everywhere.

The perfect solution would be an auto-balance of the drop rate / party size ratio, but for some reason it won't be implemented by ANet.

Therefore adding disenchanters in various popular farming spots (twin serpent, uw...), and generally increasing monster diversity to increase the difficulty of solo farming, is a good long-term move, and especially in high level places like the UW.

Quoting the release notes:

If the average UW player (in a team) actually get decent drops, I'm all for this update.

The endgame FoW armor are supposed to be near impossible to get, and they had become pretty easy to get with an invici-monk. Once the ectos which have been solo-farmed are burnt with a few FoW armors, the market will be more healthy.

Even if I get bored of farming very quickly, I can understand that other players may appreciate this mind-numbing gambling process (do X then Y, get loot hoping to get super ubber item Z, rinse and repeat until exhaustion).

However they will hopefully no longer be able to get 10 times more stuff than a 'standard' player (who plays in team and kill various monsters on various high level maps). Farming should remain profitable but not disgustingly profitable. Screwing up the whole 'economy' (and especially for the average player who can't compete with solo farmers) is assuredly not the best way to reward a farmer for using a stupid copy/pasted build and for killing 2345 zillion times the same monster.

yes, they nerfed the hell out of invinci monk lately.
it was the flaw of the game that soloing was more profitable then partying.
I can see that it can be hard to find a decent pick up group. I guess you will have to brush up on your PUG management to maximize your chances of getting a decent PUG. (Maybe a good idea after all to release a PUG management article Frog?). That said, the build has been running loose for weeks, so any smart player should have exploited it to the bone allready.

And farmers are creative. With the coming of 2 high level looot dropping area's, I take a bold statement that someone will find a way to farm the green weapons. And the farm-nerf cycle repeats it self.

Well, i can bet that 90% at least of the "soloing monk" don't have any elite skillz, goal was to reach lvl 20 and droknar as fast as possible and once you're there, making as much money and drops as possible, why get an elite when you can kill dozens of mobs at lvl 6 ?

That's were the "true monks" will laught imo, well at least now there will be a full load of M/G ready to group for UW and imo this is not really a good thing, dying in UW is in the air now ^^

I think it's funny that people believe that all the solo'ing monks will suddenly start joining UW groups. I have solo'd UW and I'll monk for guildies but you couldn't pay me to monk for 7 strangers in a PUG for UW.

Instead of solo'ing I'll go back to my ranger and trapper teams, it's alot more fun...

What about the solo monks that got past ascension in a proper group without running anywhere? You know the ones that stuck through the desert and southern shiverpeaks as a healer/protector?

Gotta agree on this. PuG in UW = nightmare. Trapper teams were fun. But even if they could breeze through the UW like or faster than a good balanced team, trapper didn't get 8 times the normal amount of loot.

Congratulations to all whiners and "UW isn't meant to be soloed" trolls. You failed to name a single good reason why solo playing even a hard area like UW isn't a legit way to play this game, but you won! It doesn't change the fact that it's utterly lame to force your preferred way of gaming upon others since a game like GW should have a place for all kinds of gameplay from PvP to team PvE to solo PvE (I am actually enjoying all of those). I am quite disappointed of ANet that they listened to guys like you. I hope next time they nerf an aspect of the game YOU liked. Expect me to laugh at you, then, too.
